Throughout the course of a long career in dentistry that started when he earned his D.D.S at Al-Ba-ath University Faculty of Dentistry in Hama, Syria in 1989, Ammar Idlibi has focused on continued education and providing care to all of his patients. He placed his focus on pediatric dentistry upon moving to the United States and is the founder of Kids Dental Care, which operates in three locations in Connecticut, providing pediatric dentistry and orthodontics by residency-trained specialists. In addition to developing his own skills he also understands the personal qualities needed to be successful in the field, which has helped him when hiring for his practice. The following are key traits that all pediatric dentists must have.The ability to work well with children comes first and foremost in pediatric dentistry. In many cases, professionals will need to work with younger people who are perhaps scared of visiting the dentist and thus less likely to allow treatment to be provided. Pediatric dentists need to demonstrate great patience in such situations, working tirelessly to help make their patients feel more comfortable so that they can provide the care needed.
Pediatric dentists must also be strong communicators who understand the needs of the people they are speaking to. When engaging colleagues, they must be capable of using technical language efficiently, but they also need to work on simplifying complex ideas so they can be communicated to younger people. Again, it comes down to trust. If children do not understand what is happening, they are less likely to trust their dentists, so good communication is needed at all stages.
Finally, Ammar Idlibi and his fellow pediatric dentists focus on continued education to ensure they provide the most rigorous and up-to-date treatments for their patients. Allowing your knowledge to stagnate not only means that you aren’t providing the highest standards of care possible to your patients, but also results in you doing yourself a disservice, as your patients will seek treatment from dentists who are more committed to their work. Aim to improve constantly in everything that you do and take advantage of any opportunities you have to enhance your knowledge base.
