BriefingWire.com, 3/14/2017 - As the world saluted women power, Lokmanya Hospital dedicated a week for conducting programs to benefit women. The inauguration, which was held on March 5th, had women participating in Rangoli competition. The competition, held to dispel myths about restriction in movement after Total Knee replacement, had many women coming forth to demonstrate their artistic abilities.

“Rangoli being an intrinsic part of Indian culture, women in the country are always keen to make one during festivals. It is also a way to commemorate other auspicious occasions. However, some women fear with this surgery, it may hamper their movement which may restrict them from participating in this important cultural aspect. The hospital, through this program successfully dispelled this myth,” said Dr Narendra Vaidya, Managing Director and Chief Joint Replacement Surgeon for Lokmanya Hospital.

“ I had lost my confidence. However through the hospital’s support, I was able to relax and feel. They reassured I could easily make a good rangoli despite this surgery which boosted my confidence. It felt really good to be participating in the program,” informed Vrushali Moghe, a 66 year old participant who has undergone replacement surgery for both her knees.

Sheela Shantaram Bhondale a 71 year participant who has undergone total knee replacement for both her knees also had similar things to share. “ My knees after total replacement surgery have never been an obstacle in any kind of day to day movements. Infact, I have even forgotten that I have undergone such a surgery since my knees feel very natural to me,”she said.

Other events that were held included felicitation of newly elected 15 lady corporators from PCMC on 7th of March. A health camp held for people during this week also saw around 70-75 participants. People were also given discount vouchers on this occasion.

In a bid to spread bone health awareness the hospital is also going to hold a session on diet and bone health this Saturday. The participants for the same are to include women from Rotary Club of Nigdi, Pavana Bank, Bhagini Nivedita Bank and Shamrao Vitthal Co-operative Bank.
