St. Louis, MO. In late August and early September, 2010, Matthew Freeman, author of the poetry collection Darkness Never Far, (978-1-60381-063-0, 104 pp, $13.95), published by Coffeetown Press, will be doing poetry readings at three venues in St. Louis: McDuff’s Restaurant, located in St. Louis’ Central West End area, on August 23 at 7 pm; the Missouri History Museum, located in the Forest Park area, on August 26, time tba; and the Hartford Coffee Company, located on 3974 Hartford Street, on September 4 at 7 pm.Darkness Never Far is an exploration into the thoughts and feelings of an individual who has visited the darkest places of the human heart. ¬Fortunately, the author has now returned to teach the rest of us important lessons about human love and longing.
“Matthew ¬Freeman was my patient many years ago,” says John G. Csernansky, M.D. in the book’s introduction, “and I wondered then whether he would find the peace and happiness every person deserves. After reading Darkness Never Far, it is apparent that he is still seeking that peace. “I feel that nothing’s really happened until I write it down,” Matthew says. “I began ruined by love and hope to end that way. I like to walk the line between myth and delusion.”
Matthew Freeman woke up to find he was a poet when in high school he was nearly destroyed by love; accordingly, he then traveled from Alaska to New York, suffering and singing his songs. Having drifted in and out of hospitals, he finally began his recovery and was able to get three books of poems published. Currently Freeman is now finishing his degree at Saint Louis University; this fall he will teach his very first workshop.
