BMW – History Of The Vehicle Company

BMW means Bayerische Motoren Werke, or just Bavarian Motor Works, which is the global-renowned manufacturer of motorcycles, four-wheeled cars as well as airplane engines. What makes BMW so popular and revered of all the automotive companies are BMW’s dedication to excellence and quality, and it all started one hundred years ago, in 1916.

1916 – it was when Bayerische Motoren Werke began, it was also when engines entered a new era. BMW initially started as a engine-focused company that studied and experimented with boosting the performance of engines – slowly but surely, the company moved from basic motorcycle engines to airplane engines that would revolutionise air transport.

Everything started with Karl Friedrich Rapp’s ambition to enhance and reinvent the engine and produce them as even more powerful than ever before – Rapp was the person who laid the groundwork for BMW. Just before WW1, the requirement for high-performance aircraft engines had sky-rocketed, and that is how Karl Friedrich Rapp’s ascension to success started. The BMW company is in truth the direct results of merging three different companies in : The Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach which has been in Thuringia, the Bayerische Flugzeugwerke situated in Bavaria (which focused on aircraft engines) and, last but not least, the Rapp Motorenwerke company Used BMW for sale maidstonewhich specialised in vehicle engines – the second soon became Bayerische Motorenwerke.

As mentioned above, BMW started as an aircraft engine manufacturer, and it did that for more than a decade – it wasn’t before late 1920s when BMW actually became a full-time automobile manufacturer which offered BMW servicing, upon purchasing one of the factories stated earlier (the Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach). Rapp’s dream was to push the performance of the engines to a new level, which is how a first line of luxury vehicles emerged, in the 1930s. These vehicles radically changed the way people saw cars and, above all – comfort. Featuring six cylinders, this luxury car line was the predecessor from the first performance car manufactured by BMW, a vehicle that quickly gained notoriety amongst sports enthusiasts due to the “state of the art engine”, coupled with it’s aerodynamic design. Nonetheless, the joy of BMW just as one automobile manufacturer was short-lived, since the company was required to stop its manufacture of motorcycles and automobiles when World War II started, and the company returned to manufacturing aircraft engines, just as before.
