The BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo is being launched into an automotive press brigade. Numerous people have been waiting for the arrival of the 3 Series GT for awhile now. While the 5 Series GT was not the sensation BMW was hoping for, the design of the 3 Series Gran Turismo has a lot to prove.The 3 Series Gran Turismo has a 3.0-liter turbo I6 engine which produces 302 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. It is based off the long-wheelbase 3 Series chassis that was created especially for the Chinese market. The 3 Series GT has is longer than the 3 Series wagon and sits 3.2 inches higher as well. This all makes for a better passenger experience giving more head and leg room in the cabin.
In the United States, everything that applies to trim and option-wise for the 3 Series sedan will remain the same for the 3 GT. The 3 Series GT is set to launch this September, making the 328i GT and the 335i GT. Exact pricing has not been set, and will be released when the launch date approaches. Consumers can expect xDrive all-wheel drive models when the launch date draws nearer.
Page Beermann, BMW exterior designer for the new 3 Series GT, commented on the design philosophy behind the car. He said “it’s a very functional mix of possibilities in the rear of the car and having a sporty product. It’s not a 3 Series by any means, it’s a total different concept, the seating to get in and out of the car is completely different, and it’s actually quite more functional than the 3 Series Touring, quite a bit more space in the rear also in the trunk area. So I kinda wanted to create a product that will appeal to people’s intelligence as well as their emotional side. A lot of people see a car they fall in love with it and make an emotional purchase but I think this speaks to your emotional side as well. The reason why this is a huge silhouette is here it’s because it tells the whole story. You can see the car from far and you immediately understand what it’s all about.”
