Miami, Florida - Active Autowerke, an independent service center and leader in the world of aftermarket BMW performance parts, adds a new BMW accessory online with a new and improved approach to flashing software tune files to the BMW DME. With an emphasis on value, flexibility, and advanced technology; the Simon-3 tuning programmer is a zero hassle, low cost tuning cable. Available for a multitude of BMW vehicles, the Simon-3 was designed to give control back to the user; to upload, update, and upgrade their BMW’s software.“The Simon-3 has greater flexibility than previous flashing tools which allow us to not only be able to flash the engine DME, but other modules on the vehicle with factory-calibrated files such as the automatic DCT and SMG gearboxes.” – Karl Hugh, Technical Director, Active Autowerke
In regards to tuning tools like the Simon-1 and G5 - once the first tune was written to the car, the tool would then be locked in “write mode.” Unfortunately, this proved to be troublesome for users if BMW flashed their car back to stock. Although tuning devices like the G5 did have the capability to read error codes in the DME - it did not have the ability to erase error codes in the automatic transmission and DCT gearboxes after flashing a tune. Moreover, the Simon-1 and G5 were somewhat inefficient for being handheld tuners. Even though the user could read and write the software file with the tool, the user would still have to plug the tool into a PC to load the new file.
With the Simon-3, all the pitfalls of previous tuning tools are eliminated. The Simon-3 is limited to the first VIN number it is used on, however, it has the flexibility to always read and write at any time. It can also recognize whether the vehicle has been flashed back to stock or re-flashed with an updated map from the BMW dealer – where it interprets these changes and keeps the necessary settings while only adjusting those that involve making power. Additionally, the Simon-3 has more advanced technology that can erase transmission error codes that occur after the car has been flashed. All that is needed is a PC running Windows and an internet connection to receive e-mail correspondence.
“We are progressing to a newer tool that will do the same job more efficiently and at a more affordable price to the end user.” – Karl Hugh, Technical Director, Active
