Aerifying Palm Springs Golf Clubs of La Quinta CC Greens
Aerification at Palm Springs Golf Clubs

BriefingWire.com, 7/25/2014 - The Palm Springs Golf Clubs undergone aerification on July 15th and 16th.The Palm Desert Country Clubs located in California understand that aerification is vital to maintain and manage the greens. Golfers on the other hand may have to find a new activity to do when aerification at Palm Desert Country Club takes place.

What Is Aerification?

Whether it is gardens or golf courses, to make them beautiful, aerification is needed. By aerating the greens, you are getting rid of lawn thatch or built-up grass. Thatch is the accumulation of leaves, dead stems, and roots. If left unmaintained, it could attract insects and diseases.

Why Aerify the Greens?

Aerification is essential to perform on greens that get the most activity. Gardens or lawns used as a playground for kids require aerification to be performed for instance. When you aerify the lawn, you are removing solid particles, excess lawn thatch, and organic debris located under the grass surface. If you do not remove this build-up, you are preventing the roots from growing healthy and strong.

How is Aerification Performed?

Golf courses at country clubs are used on a daily basis by golfers in search for a good pastime. During aerification, the area is closed off for the day. Workers then carry on making tiny holes in the grass to allow water, nutrients, and air to pass through to the grass roots.

What is the Function of the Holes?

After the holes have been dug, they are filled with sand. The sand assists the soil in trapping the air space enabling roots to grow in a downward direction. In addition, filling up the holes also prevents compaction and improves drainage.

How Do Golfers Affect The Deterioration of Soil?

Just as a playground is filled with kids, the golf course is filled people playing a good game of golf. Overtime, the soil begins to die, as it sustains heavy damage from the feet of golfers as well as mowing equipment.

This leads to the soil becoming compacted and not able to breathe well, as the roots are destroyed from people constantly walking on them. Without proper maintenance, the greens lose their lovely texture, shrivel, and die. Therefore, it is necessary to aerify the La Quinta CC’s golf course to make them appealing.

Aerification Methods

Golf courses can be aerifyed with machines with tines. People can also use knives to make holes in the soil however, that would take a long time to perform on the golf course. A newer technique is to use ultra high-pressure water, which is put inside the soil to create the holes.

Airfying the golf course may inconvenience some golfers, but in the end, they will get a healthy and green ground to golf on. Remember that on July 15 and 16, La Quinta CC golf course will be closed for aerification.
