Having taught remedial reading for forty-two years, Remedial Reading Teacher Nancy Cole has learned a thing or two about her students. The most effective instruction begins where the student's learning stopped. Therefore, she designed Prescription for Reading Success, a step-by-step teaching tool including a thorough battery of diagnostic tests. After the student finishes each section, his or her teacher will be guided to begin instruction for this particular child at a specific level in each of the categories named above. The child will be challenged instead of bored, and will be excited to be learning so much in so little time.
Children who test similarly can be grouped together, following Mrs. Cole's instructions for correcting deficiencies.
Mrs. Cole's average privately tutored pupil improved three and a half years within ten weeks of biweekly instruction and daily homework. Public school reading groups have averaged an improvement of two years within seven months with only twenty minutes of daily instruction.
For less than one dollar, teachers can download immediately their own copy of Prescription for Reading Success. If reading at a lower level, The Dolch Sight Word Test included in the testing battery will give teachers an approximation of a student's grade level which will be helpful in knowing where to commence the reading tests. If their student is in Grade Five, downloading diagnostic tests for Grades Three through Seven might be just right.
This program is excellent for beginning readers and will prevent dyslexia if the program is followed.
