Hollywood…..This past Friday, November 25th, former alumni athletes from UCLA Bruins and USC Trojans gathered together for cross-town bragging rights in the “The Showdown”, a bowling tournament created by the Bruin Leadership Athletic Alumni Council (BLAAC).

The tournament was held at Lucky Strike Lanes & Lounge located at 800 W. Olympic Blvd., at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles. Former athletes from both schools came out in full-force to claim bragging rights on the eve of the big cross-town rivalry game between the Bruins and the Trojans.

“This was our inaugural year and the turnout and support was absolutely overwhelming”, says Andre Farr, Chairman of BLAAC. We only expected a small amount of people and as news continued to spread about the event, we knew the ‘trash-talking’ would in full-effect and all was in store for a great time.” Former alumni athletes from both schools showed up to support including, Steve Lewis (UCLA/Olympic Gold Medalist), Henry Thomas (UCLA Track/Field), Emmanuel Onewutuebe (UCLA Noseguard), Toby Bailey (UCLA Guard/Forward), Martin French (USC Cornerback) and Mazio Royster (USC Running Back)to name a few.

Top bowler for the evening between the Bruins/Trojans competition was BLAAC Chairman, Andre Farr with a score of 174 and high scorer for the open competition was DJ Bonner, with 189. The tournament was sponsored in part by RivalME, a trivia game that is customized to its player's interests with over 100,000 questions with an artificially intelligent game engine. Other sponsors included Black Sports Agents Association (BSAA) and Apex Global Solutions.

The tournament will be held annually the night before the big cross-town rivalry game between the Bruins and the Trojans. “This is another way of us keeping in touch with the community through our former schools,” explains Farr. “It not only allows us to better the community through fundraising efforts, but it allows us to have fun and keep the rivalry going on a different level between the two universities.”
