Around 1,793 patients were enrolled in the study with the average age of the participants being 45 years.
To measure the anxiety and depression levels in the study participants, the researchers used the AIM (Arthritic impact Measurement) scales. The results proved that more than a third of the entire study population suffered from anxiety and depression.
The researchers claimed that the medical professionals should screen the arthritic patients for depression and anxiety due to their high rate of prevalence, implication of the quality of life and the availability of treatment options.
The researchers also found that the anxiety complication was more common in the study group as compared to depression, as the results reported that 31% patients showed anxiety; while only 18% of the arthritis patients suffered from depression.
Also, it has been found that around 84% of the patients reporting depression also showed the symptoms allied to anxiety trouble. And, more than 50% of the individuals suffering from either of the two symptoms never seek any clinical advice.
