Blekko search engine is living with its promise to be categorically different. It combs billions of web pages it considers worthwhile, but shows up only the top results it considers worthwhile. The unique selling proposition of Rich Skrenta, Blekko’s founder is slashtags.
It is an easy to create tool, filtering search results and helping people discover only high quality sites free from spam or content farms.
Blekko search engine has now fashioned thousands of slashtags deftly created by humans across the web.
And this search engine has not stopped by taking on Google on the computer platform; it has now turned its focus on mobile device.
As to be expected it is Rich Skrenta’s idea.
“People search in a different way on mobile devices than on laptops or computers, because they tend to be more hassle-free while doing so. In the process they glide through more results”.
Mobile search is a challenging proposition, because it requires navigating through small screens. Since most searches are done on the go, mobile users have zero tolerance for extraneous search.
In 2013, blekko launched its search application izik specifically designed for iPhone and Android devices. Blekko reps were very ecstatic on the launch when they said, “it is the most sophisticated categorization engine ever built”.
Skrenta reveals that blekko search engine is now doing more than 5 million searches daily and has 12.5 million monthly uniques.
Blekko probably has many repeat users to get its business going.
But to make an even better impact, its concept that aggressive filtering is needed must get more push. It is not easy to stop Google either form doing something as good if not better than what blekko search engine is doing.
Yet, many are still finding that blekko is a solid alternative to big names, and importantly blekko search engine is having excellent potential for researchers, librarians and the media who are continually looking for high-quality results.
Blekko has powered three products - Web search, the core product, izik, a search application for mobiles and ROCKZi, a social news platform.
