The sporty sedan got both visual and power upgrades as they were unveiled at the 2013 M Festival by the Head of Engineering at M, Albert Biermann, and the Marketing Director for BMW M, Thomas Schemera. The styling updates weren’t the only things that were released at the M Festival. The Competition Package was announced and it comes with an upgrade to 575 horsepower.BMW M engineers have modified the suspension and damping systems as well as tuning the stabilizer bars. These adjustments account for lowering the BMW M5 by about ten millimeters. The Competition Package was specifically designed to boost the handling properties of the BMW M5. The newly developed M carbon ceramic brakes are also still available, as of March 2013.
The M Dynamic mode for the Dynamic Stability Control system paired with the Competition Package is more geared to sporty handling characteristics. The Competition Package includes exclusively designed 20-inch M light-alloy wheels along with a sport exhaust system. The sport exhaust system features customary M twin tailpipes in black chrome for that extra sporty look.
The M kidney grille now feature the slats that resemble the double-spoke design of the M light alloys. Adaptive LED headlights are now offered and the standard BMW M5 taillights with the thin LED light strips remain untouched.
The BMW M5 exterior isn’t the only part that got upgrades. The interior gained an increase in volume of the storage compartment in the center console. The Control Display of the standard-fitted iDrive operating system now has chrome trim on the sides. Starting in July, the M5 will be available in Pure Metal Silver, Pyrite Brown metallic, Frozen Blue Metallic, and further BMW matte paintwork finishes. The interior leather will be available in Cashmere Beige and Nutmeg.
