Carolyn Steel author of Hungry City supports Secret Seed to get children growing vegetables
The interaction between architecture and food is the basis of living today. Sustenance and shelter are the basic needs of mankind and the modern dilemma is how to make these sustainable.

BriefingWire.com, 3/11/2010 - At Eco-build Carolyn Steel gave an interesting introduction to the ralationship between Food and Architecture. No one has considered this relationship more and she shares her thoughts in her book The Hungry City, how food shapes our lives.

Human life is reliant on a supply of food and where people gather together to form a city most food is grown at some distance and, today, a lot is grown at a huge distance. However almost everyone can find a small space to grow some food and it will never taste better when you have grown it yourself and you can eat it within moments of picking.

If you don't have a garden or a sunny balcony think about some guerrilla gardening or land share.

If you know young kids who would like to get their hands dirty and reap the benefits visit the Secret Seed Society web site that encourages children and adults to consider their impact on the environment and how they can live more eco-friendly lives.

Carolyn Steel said 'The Secret Seed Society's idea of linking stories about vegetable characters with a starter-pack of seeds is a fantastic way of getting kids excited about growing food'.
