Castlewood Bulldogs wants to Prevent English Bulldog Puppies from becoming Holiday Novelties
The reputable breeder wants to stop the popular breed from entering the wrong hands during the holiday season.

BriefingWire.com, 9/23/2014 - The holiday season will be upon everyone soon. That means that millions of households will purchase a new puppy as a gift, only to have it fall in the hands of a shelter a few months later. Bulldogs are one of the most popular canine breeds therefore it is safe to assume that many of the ditched puppies post-holiday season will belong to that breed.

This is because many people do not do research to discover the intricate nuances of not only puppies, but Bulldog puppies. Much like people need to baby proof items around the house before their child becomes active, so must they do the same thing before bringing a puppy home. Puppies are a big commitment and it is not as easy as unwrapping a bow and watching everyone live happily ever after.

Bulldog puppies, while somewhat active as puppies, are not highly active and tend to be slower learners. This means that many new owners must contend with chewed items and accidents before the puppy understands the meaning of being housebroken and is no longer interested in chewing one’s favorite pair of shoes.

Additionally, people should really assess their lifestyle before the holiday season begins to really learn if they are honestly ready to include a puppy in their lifestyle. Yet, the Bulldog is a solid, loyal breed, and even though a puppy may not suit their needs, a more senior dog may.

Yet, if someone has come to the conclusion that he or she wants a Bulldog puppy and can give it the best care possible then he or she should ensure that the breeder is a legitimate Bulldog breeder before placing a deposit on the animal. Far too many puppy mills and pet stores sell puppies which a breeder would never have opted to breed because of health problems or other traits they think the dam and sire would possess to make a bad match.

Therefore, it is best if the interested party contacts a verified, responsible breeder or Bulldog shelter to purchase or adopt a Bulldog. The American Kennel Club (AKC) and a number of Bulldog organizations can provide people with information on responsible breeders as well as legitimate, Bulldog shelters.

Dawn Castillo, breeder and founder of Castlewood Bulldogs states:

We think English Bulldogs are amazing, but not necessarily amazing for everyone. Although we take steps to prevent our animals from falling in the wrong hands, we urge prospective buyers to examine all aspects of the breed and research legitimate breeders and shelters in order to prevent more of this amazing breed (as well as others) from falling into the wrong hands. The holiday season is a very dangerous one for pets everywhere and we would like to see that deadly trend stopped in its tracks.
