Chevrolet and GM Donate to Aid Tornado Relief; Southern Chevrolet Cadillac of Louisiana Is Proud
Local Alexandria Louisiana dealership, Southern Chevrolet Cadillac, could not be more proud of Chevrolet and General Motors and the donations made for tornado relief efforts.

BriefingWire.com, 5/23/2013 - A deadly tornado ripped through a suburb of Oklahoma this past Monday, leaving an unimaginable site of destruction in its wake.

Michigan-based nonprofit, Forgotten Harvest, has abandoned its routine mission to relieve hunger in the Detroit metropolitan community and shifted its focus to Help 4 Oklahoma.

Chevrolet has joined in the effort by donating a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado full-size pickup truck to Forgotten Harvest. The Silverado will be used to transport supplies in the form of rescued surplus, prepared and perishable food to emergency food providers like the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.

“We will be collecting shelf-stable foods and medical and hygiene products for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma,” said Forgotten Harvest CEO Susan Goodell. “Vehicles will be instrumental in the implementation of this effort and we thank Chevrolet for this generous donation.”

Texas was also victim to yet another tornado this week. The 24 Chevrolet Express Cargo vans stocked full of equipment and tools that were donated by Chevrolet to aid in Hurricane Sandy relief efforts will be transferred to several different counties affected by that tornado.

“From leadership giving and corporate gifts to much-needed vehicles and volunteers to assist with recovery efforts, Dan Akerson, the GM Foundation and Chevrolet are leading the way to help families rebuild their lives, “ said Habitat for Humanity CEO Jonathan Reckford. “This latest pledge will help the residents of impacted Texas communities come home again.”

Yet another contribution will be made from the GM Foundation to both Forgotten Harvest and Habitat for Humanity to aid in their efforts.

Forgotten Harvest will receive $50,000 to boost its Help 4 Oklahoma campaign, with volunteer efforts sure to follow. Habitat for Humanity will receive $500,000 to utilize in the clean up, repair and new-home construction in the devastated Texas communities.

The GM Foundation has contributed over $7 million in global disaster relief efforts since 2004.

Local Alexandria Louisiana dealership, Southern Chevrolet Cadillac, is very proud of the generous donations contributed to aid in the tornado relief efforts. Stop by the dealership at 5845 Coliseum Blvd or call 866.627.1270 to learn more about the GM Foundation.
