Children's Book Uses Greek History to Discuss True Meaning of Happiness
The first book in the new Aristoddlers Presents series has adapted a story about real people from the 5th century B.C. into a story children can relate to.

BriefingWire.com, 8/06/2014 - ADA, OKLAHOMA—Tall Tails Publishing House has announced the upcoming release of their new children's picture book, Aristoddlers Presents: The Greedy King, A Tale from Ancient Greece. The first book in the new Aristoddlers Presents series, this children's book has adapted a story about real people from the 5th century B.C. into a story children can relate to.

The book centers on the Greedy King, who is the richest man alive and thinks that also makes him the happiest man alive. He summons the Wise Man to come and see all of his treasure. He hopes the Wise Man will confirm his position as the happiest man alive, then go out and tell everyone about it. The Wise Man tells the Greedy King that he is only lucky, setting events in motion that change the world and redefines what it means to be happy.

This is the story of greedy King Croesus and wise Solon, adapted from The Histories written by Herodotus in 440 B.C. In addition to the story of the Greedy King, the children's book features a synopsis of the story from The Histories and a painting of Solon and King Croesus by Gerard van Honthorst painted in 1624.

The author, Mitchell Biesemeyer, was inspired to write this story by one of his professors at the University of Oklahoma. "Dr. J. Rufus Fears was an exceptional professor who taught classes on freedom in Greece and Rome. His passion for history was infectious, and each of the stories he shared in class had valuable life lessons that are still relevant today. Dr. Fears' classes really fueled my desire to make these ancient stories accessible to the children of today."

Aristoddlers Presents: The Greedy King, A Tale from Ancient Greece (ISBN 978-0-9823519-7-0) will be released on October 1, 2014 in hardcover. It will be available through www.talltailspublishing.com, www.aristoddlers.com, and all major online retailers.
