A brand new product to the pet food industry is being launched this week by Darford International, a pet food and treats company based in Vernon, BC.
Omega Boosters is a new line of fish-based formulas that provide dogs with a natural boost of Omega-3, DHA and EPA. All three flavours –Tuna, Salmon and Mackerel, and Sustainable Fish – can be used as a topping on dry food or as a treat.
Omega-3 DHA and Omega-3 EPA are largely derived from fish oil, and are difficult to incorporate into diets because so few foods actually contain them. While Omega 3s are common in pet diets, most do not include satisfactory amounts. To overcome this, Omega Boosters contain between 1,300 mg and 2,200 mg of Omega-3, between 1,100 mg and 1,375 mg of DHA, and between 240 mg and 550 mg of EPA. Each can of Omega Booster contains 55 grams/2 ounces, ideal for a 40-pound-dog to consume on a daily basis.
“Omega Boosters were designed to meet the growing demand in the marketplace – so many dogs are in need of Omega-3,” says Darcy Bomford, founder and CEO of Darford International. “Numerous health issues are associated with a lack of Omega-3s so we designed Omega Boosters to provide a healthy allowance and to be a tastier and easier alternative to fish oil capsules and liquids.”
Ingredients found in Omega Boosters are as follows: Tuna Formula – tuna, tuna broth and tuna oil; Salmon and Mackerel – salmon, mackerel, salmon broth, tuna oil, salmon oil, beta-carotene; Sustainable Fish Formula – whitefish, mackerel, mackerel broth, tuna oil, sardine, sardine oil.
Omega-3 fatty acids have a multitude of benefits and have been shown to help relive itching from allergy-related skin conditions, support immune function, develop and maintain brain health, support heart, vision and joint health, manage cholesterol and arthritis and can help prevent kidney disease, heart disease and cancers.
Omega Boosters are also available in a three-flavour variety pack. And as with Darford’s other lines of products, each purchase of Omega Boosters contributes to the Plus One Movement, Darford’s life-saving initiative to help feed rescue dogs. Based on the simple concept of “Buy for one, care for two,” each UPC code entered into the Darford website generates a meal for a dog in need.
