David Bittle is a retired USCG Chief Petty Officer and he served in the U.S. Coast Guard more than 24 years. A dedicated professional with great leadership skills, he has handled some of the most important duties while in the field such as search and rescue, first response, situation assessment, investigations, on-site supervision, process management, inspections and security counter measures. His experience in management was focused on homeland security and environmental safety/response. He showed exceptional leadership qualities and decision making skills that helped him in serving the U.S. Coast Guard to the best of his abilities. He effectively coordinated multi command watch assignments and sustained steady state and surge safety and security operations in challenging and dynamic urban base operating environments. David Bittle was awarded with the Coast Guard Commendation Medal for his services as Chief of Security at the USCG Base Support Unit in Boston from June 2006 to September 2011. As an official in the Coast Guard he was often awarded for his actions that led to saving of human lives and resources. He showed great courage, dedication and sense of duty while serving the Coast Guard and these efforts were duly rewarded over time. He received The Secretary’s Outstanding Unit Award for outstanding performance in New York Harbor following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center from September 11, 2001 through October 22, 2001. He was also awarded the USCG Achievement Medal for saving the life of an injured hazardous material response worker during the anthrax attacks in Washington, DC.
As a coast guardsman, David Bittle showed great presence of mind while on the job and took decisions that were most suitable for the situations he faced. He has the unique ability to quickly assess any situation and decide the right course of action that will help in a quick resolution of the problem. His quick wits and presence of mind helped to earn him the promotion to the senior level of chief.
