Ford is hoping to appeal to parents with the release of its new C-Max Hybrid. By combining a spacious interior with great gas mileage, Ford is hoping that the C-Max will be a viable option for families that have had to choose between SUVs and Mini Vans in the past. With a high roof line, and 6 cubic feet of extra space when compared to the Prius, the Ford C-Max Hybrid is a spacious alternative for parents. The C-Max, which has 24 cubic feet of luggage space, is bigger in nearly every aspect when compared to the Prius. It has a higher roofline and larger load area, which make loading children in and out much easier than a typical hybrid or sedan. While it may not be as spacious as a typical SUV, the C-Max still contains a respectable amount of space while maintaining an estimated 47 miles per gallon, much higher than most SUVs.
In 2013 Ford will also be releasing the C-Max Energi, giving customers another option, which is an electric version of the C-Max Hybrid. Both the Hybrid and Energi use a similar engine, a 148-hp, Atkinson-cycle 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine coupled to a 118-hp electric motor and the body will be nearly identical. The electric powered Energi can run an estimated 21 miles, and when the battery is depleted, the gasoline engine will begin working, essentially making the Energi run just like the Hybrid.
Even though the Ford C-Max Hybrid is designed to be a family-oriented vehicle, it still maintains a sleek interior and top of the line technology. The C-Max includes Active Park Assist, and a hands-free lift gate – features that are not available on every vehicle. The C-Max also comes standard with AdvanceTrac stability control, Roll Stability Control, Curve Control, and seven airbags making it a safe and affordable family vehicle.
