Founders’ Day Rescheduled For Saturday, April 2nd
Community invited to celebrate the founding of Salinas at the Salinas Train Station Plaza

BriefingWire.com, 3/24/2016 - Do you prefer old-fashioned, family fun? Want to take a step back in time? Then you won’t want to miss Founders’ Day at the Salinas Train Station Plaza on Saturday, April 2nd from 11am-4pm. The second annual event has organizers gearing up for a busy day which kicks off with awards for a rehabilitated railroad train car, 2016 Founders’ Day art and essay contest winners and 2015 historic rehabilitation projects.

Afterward, party-goers will enjoy a wide range of attractions, including vintage train cars; a model railroad; the restored home of Salinas' first mayor, I.J. Harvey; market stalls and information booths; talks and stories by local historians and "old timers;" historic book sales, a tavern serving food and drinks; and entertainment from across the decades by students and community members representing the city's many cultures.

Founders’ Day organizers include the City of Salinas, First Mayor’s House, Native Sons of the Golden West, the Monterey County Historical Society and the Salinas Historic Resources Board. The event celebrates the rich history of Salinas and its founding some 142 years ago.
