Garden Plants Should Be At Their Blooming Best In The Month Of July
July should be the height of summer, our gardens should now be at their blooming best, and during this midsummer month beds and borders should be packed full of colour and scent.

BriefingWire.com, 7/07/2012 - July should be the height of summer, our gardens should now be at their blooming best, and during this midsummer month beds and borders should be packed full of colour and scent. Thank goodness for nature as June has proved to be the wettest month for many a year.

Despite the weather gardens are blooming, and many garden plants are flourishing under the heavy rain. July probably more than any other month gardens become an extension to our homes, and weather permitting more time is spent in our gardens, but not this month so far, we can only stand and stare at the blooms and wonder at nature.

July is usually a good time to lift and store spring bulbs, especially daffodils and tulips, of course many gardeners leave the bulbs in the ground to come up again the following season, remember all bulbs naturally multiply in the soil.

So many jobs at present are being left undone due to the weather, but take heart hopefully it will get better and you will be able to garden to your heart’s content. Jobs that are on hold at present is a regular mowing of the lawn, dead-heading, spraying roses against greenfly and black spot, and of course any flowers that are flopping over need tying to stakes.

It is also time to plant our bedding plants to give a stunning show of colour, and before we know where we are autumn will be upon us. As summer turns to Autumn some gardens begin to look tired, and as the days begin to shorten borders can look sad, and in need of a ‘pick-me-up’.

Add some late summer colour to your garden, any collection of plants, have different requirements choose bright vibrant colours and of course many of the plants have more than one quality some being attractive to bees and butterflies, while others have flowers that are long lasting and ideal for cutting and placing in the house.

Many garden shrubs produce beautiful flowers in September and October the chrysanthemum is one and flowers for a long period from July to October they make a wonderful show and offer beautiful red flowers with a yellow centre which are ideal for cutting.

Container plants set in interesting containers around the garden makes a difference, a container can be places on patios and in places where there is no soil, thus giving you colour in different places. Many gardeners like to plan ahead and plant in some sort of order of colour, and height and try to plant species of plants that will give a show all year round.

Having said that some gardeners will buy garden seeds and chuck it in and see what develops, makes no difference which type of gardener you are the end result will be worth waiting for.

A spokesman for Blooming Direct a nursery located on the lovely island of Jersey said “it is a shame that the weather has been so bad, as this time of the year many gardeners will use plug plants to give their gardens a ‘kick start’ we grow our plug plants from seed on our very own nursery on the island, they are picked at their optimum time and sent direct to your door”.
