Instill a love of gardening with children from an early age even as young as 3 or 4, teach them about garden seeds, and what they need to grow such as water, and sunlight, little ones will think this as great fun and what you teach them at this early age they will love forever.

As children grow and start school this interest is carried on in the schools, many many schools have gardening patches and the children love to tend the plants, also dig, sow seeds or garden plants in tidy rows and then weed with a young watchful eye.

Pre-teens can start searching on the Internet to find the best types of plants for the region and what sort of bedding plants when planted together gives the best show and profusion of colour, and if you have a teenager in the family buy them a soil testing kit so they can test the soil, this gives them a ‘stake’ in how well the plants will do this year.

There is no age limit to gardening, from toddlers to folk well into their twilight years, all one needs is the enthusiasm to make a garden beautiful, a love of seeing colour and beauty everywhere, and a knack of what and where to plant garden shrubs, or make a wonderful show with container plants, it is the love that drives a keen gardener on.
