It's summertime, which also means it travel time! I mean, lets face it. Summer is everyone's favorite time to travel! Awesome weather (just about anywhere) you travel to. Travel to the beach, beautiful weather, travel to the mountains, beautiful! Traveling to Grandmas too? I'm sure more beautiful weather! Summer can be tough on your tires, so make sure you get them checked periodically, especially before you travel. Tire pressure often changes with rising temperatures. Under or over inflated tires can put you at risk for accidents, flats, and even blowouts. Check your book for manufacturers recommendations on the proper pressure. This will also save you money at the gas pump! Properly inflated tires increase vehicle fuel efficiency by up to three percent!
Oil! Oil! Oil!
Oil is so much a necessity you don't want to mess with it! With the temperatures rising, vehicles are more likely to over heat. As well as heavy(excessive) driving. Make sure you are properly prepared for long road-trips, and hot days. Give your car a thorough check up before hand. Oil checks are always a great starting point.
Have you checked your fluid levels?
Fill coolant, transmission, differential, power steering and brake fluids to suggested levels. During the summer, coolant should be added as a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and water. It’s not a bad idea to look under your car for any fluids that may be dripping. If you see any, there’s a good chance you have a leak. A reputable service station will tell you what’s wrong and give you an estimate for repair.
Brakes!
If your brake pedal is soft and mushy, hard and resistant, or produces loud and constant scraping noises, it’s likely time for new brakes. Fixing brakes in a timely manner can prevent more costly problems in the future.
