International Federation of Bodybuilders Professional (IFBB Pro) athlete, and Chicago native, La’Drissa Bonivel hosts open house for premiere fitness studio, ProFit Studio, located at 3700 S. Indiana in the heart of Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood on October 18, 2015.

Amidst the cold streets on Chicago’s Southside, where oftentimes, the violence and disdain for human life reaches a fever pitch, resides a quiet storm with a warm heart known as La’Drissa Bonivel–professional athlete and trainer since 2000–who is on a mission to save her community, one rep at a time.

Like a warrior with a laser beam focus, Bonivel uses the K.I.S.S. (Keep it simple sweetie) system to outline her vision for restoring health to a community that seems to have lost its way.

“It doesn’t matter whether you’re Black, White, Asian or Hispanic,” said the world-renown competitor when asked about why it’s important for her to set up shop in a part of the city that seems to have been forgotten–especially where health and access to proper nutrition is concerned.

“You have to go into the storm and build outward…good health empowers and [ultimately] fosters economic change within the community,” replied the international physique competitor who has competed in such competitions as The Arnold Classic, Joe Weider’s Olympia competition and the IFBB San Jose Pro Championship, where she blew her competition away and returned with the first place prize in 2015. Next up for Bonivel is the Phoenix IFBB Pro Fitness Europa Games competition, October 10-11, 2015.

Bonivel’s growing roster of clients steadily achieving results is proof of her dedication to helping those who are invested in helping themselves. Many of her clients live in close proximity to the studio, but she also has clients who work close by, so they work out with her on their lunch break. No matter the distance clients travel to get to the studio, Bonivel’s goal is to simplify the process as much as possible.

“It’s common sense…94% of my clients live in the area. If you can help them create time or lessen the time [it takes to get here], they will do it,” said Bonivel.

Bonivel has private, one-on-one sessions with clients, but she also has group sessions wherein clients still get her individual attention and customized workouts.
