Interview with Mike Kenneally, NewSat VP of satellite strategy
NewSat VP Mike Kenneally talked about the competitive edge of the Australian satellite company

BriefingWire.com, 6/19/2012 - NewSat VP of Satellite Strategy, Mike Kenneally, recently talked to Grant Smyth of SA Defence Business about the competitive edge of the Australian company in delivering secure mobile satellite communications, teleport and mobile backhaul services to both domestic and international markets.

The independent satellite firm runs a teleport in Perth and Adelaide. With a total of 23 antennas, these facilities connect terminals and mobile backhaul to 12 satellites positioned in geostationary orbits. NewSat currently serves the globe with satellite capacity from AsiaSat, NSS, Inmarsat, JCSat and Apstar.

A certified Military Accredited Global Access Point, the company has long been a trusted contractor of satellite communications for the Australian defence force and US Department of Defense, which has more than 20 contracts with the Australian company.

According to Kenneally, the company has a pool of great engineers, backed up by the best satellite communications capability of any company in the local market. These engineers work to provide the fastest and most efficient satellite link possible across various continents, including areas lacking terrestrial cable lines or cellular base stations.

Each teleport can send and receive signals across the Indian and Pacific Oceans, Middle East, Asia, Africa, Europe, and the United States. Operating round-the-clock with uninterrupted views of geostationary satellites, the operations centers got 75% of the world covered. An automatic tracking antenna can detect satellite signals and connect with multiple satellites at once.

People who work in remote areas and those who have to travel often rely on mobile satellite services. This is why teleport location is often a decisive factor in choosing a military satellite communications partner. South Australia is a good location for sending and transmitting signals across the space.

Kenneally served as information management specialist and communications consultant , holding critical roles at IBM, Department of Defence and the Prime Minister's Department. He is a part of the NewSat management team for 6 years.
