James Landers Saint Petersburg News : Developers team on Blue Meridian Condos
James is a serial entrepreneur responsible for multiple successful ventures and is the co-founder of The Principle Institute.

BriefingWire.com, 4/21/2011 - A South Florida residential developer has joined with a Tampa-based company to build a 108-unit upscale condominium project on the former site of the Days Inn hotel on Tampa's Rocky Point.

Cortex Resort Living and High Point Development LLC announced Monday they will develop the Blue Meridian waterfront condos on a 3-acre segment along Courtney Campbell Causeway. Construction is scheduled to start in July following design and permitting phases.

Living units in the 14-story structure will range from 1,500 to 4,300 square feet, with prices ranging between $600,000 to $3 million.

"We're creating opulence and paradise in the middle of the city," Everett Atwell, Cortex chief operating officer, stated in a release. "It's unlike anything in Tampa right now, and we're sparing no expense."

James Landers, High Point president and chief executive officer, added that Blue Meridian aims to combine island living with urban conveniences. Planned features include panoramic views, an elevated pool deck with infinity edge, private balconies for each unit, a waterfront clubhouse, dock access for boaters and resort-style amenities.

Cortex and High Point acquired part of the Days Inn site for $14.5 million late last year from The Impact Group, which is building a 12-story Westin hotel on the remaining segment. A previous condo project, called Oasis Rocky Point Island, was canceled after Impact determined it would be too difficult to build the 200-room hotel and a condo tower simultaneously.

Blue Meridian's sales center is scheduled to open at the site in late June with Toni Everett Co. serving as its agent.

Cortex has developed more than $600 million worth of luxury condo projects in the Florida Keys over the past five years. It maintains corporate offices in Tampa along with an operations office in Key West.
