Awarded by NADRA

The North American Deck & Railing Association

Sparta, New Jersey - September 29, 2010 Sean McAleer, Owner of Sparta, NJ based Deck, recently received national recognition for his achievements. His work was selected for a National level completion in deck design and construction. The award was presented on September 15th by the North American Deck & Railing Association (NADRA), at their First Annual National Deck Awards Ceremony held at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Maryland. The ceremony was attended by over 250 guests including deck builders’ manufacturers and industry professionals from across the U.S.A.

The judges included: Derick Belden, Executive Editor, Home & Garden, Southern Living Magazine Eric Liskey, Deputy Editor, Gardens & Outdoor Living, and Better Homes & Garden Magazine. “While judging I was amazed at the creativity and skill evident in the decks. It’s great to see an awards program that recognizes and celebrates the craftsmanship that goes into these projects.” Glenn Mathewson, Project Manager, Born Engineering, Shawn Miller, NADRA President, Owner, Katy Tomasulo, Deputy Editor, Building Products / EcoHome / eBuild, Hanley Wood Business Media. Each deck project submitted: four digital images; an explanation of all materials used; and a short essay on how the design was conceived.

Winners were selected in nine categories. McAleer was awarded the honor of having designed and constructed the judge’s choice “Best Exotic Wood Deck under 500 sq. ft.” in the Nation. His entry was a one-of-a-kind Mission Style IPE deck, complete with black iron balusters, blue stone inlays, custom rail elements, and privacy walls that frame beautiful Lake Mohawk like a canvas that changes with the seasons. McAleer’s award winning deck can be seen at and on .

“This is truly an honor,” McAleer said of this latest award, “to be recognized among the Nation’s best. There were numerous decks to compete with at this national level and each one was an amazing work in its own right. We are not only talking about craftsmanship, it’s also about imaginative expression.”

“I have a great passion for what I do! It’s about making people happy,” McAleer said, “I absolutely refuse to compromise on quality. I visit manufacturers to see how the products are made and the quality behind them. I am constantly interacting with manufacturers to keep pace with the rapid evolution of this growth industry. I also sit on the Wolman Wood Care National Advisory Board - an honor I am very proud of”.

McAleer, a 3rd generation finish carpenter and son of Irish immigrants, has been designing and building decks exclusively since launching in 2004. He is a graduate of Farleigh Dickenson University. McAleer is also the recipient of “Best Natural Deck under 500sq.ft.” and the top NJ award on the State level, “Deck of the Year 2010”, awarded in April of this year. He was also awarded the Wolman Wood care “Contractor of the year” award and has been a Wolman contractor Board Member since 2001. McAleer is also an active member of NADRA.
