Manahawkin, NJ - Mr. Frank Jack Fiamingo, President of the New Jersey Second Amendment Society, sent the following response to the editorial staff of the New Jersey Star Ledger on November 18, 2011:“I was surprised and appalled to see that you published the article entitled ‘SHOOT DOWN THESE PROPOSALS’ in the Thursday, November 17, 2011 edition of your newspaper. The article contained so many lies and misrepresentations that I would have expected some editorial restraint.
The NRA does not and has never proposed that we should, as you stated,
‘… put a gun into the hands of anyone — whether it be violent felons, substance abusers, the mentally ill or troops at risk of suicide.’
That statement is an outright lie. The bill the editorial refers to is H.R.822. Anyone interested in evaluating the actual content of the bill may go to http://judiciary.house.gov/hearings/pdf/112hr822.pdf to determine the truth about the content of the bill for themselves.
I do not hesitate to provide this link because there is absolutely no truth to the statements made in the article. The bill proposes that law-abiding individuals who have been properly screened by their home state and granted a license to carry a discreet handgun to protect their life and loved ones should not be prevented from carrying their handgun when travelling in and through other states.
The NRA, New Jersey Second Amendment Society, other rights groups and gun owners do *NOT* want guns in the hands of criminals and the insane, however they strongly support the right of law-abiding individuals to have the means to defend their life and loved ones wherever they travel. The fundamental human right and *DUTY* to protect innocent life does not end at one’s doorstep or at a state’s border.”
The New Jersey Second Amendment Society (www.NJ2AS.com) is a no compromise defender of the right to keep and bear arms formed to promote those rights protected under the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States within the legislature and the community.
