LANCASTER, CALIFORNIA - Al Weiner retired from UPS several years ago and soon found he needed a project to fill his days. As a hobby, he started a website http://www.everything-about-rving.com to share his passion for RVing with others. The stature of the site, however, changed abruptly after the economic collapse eroded his retirement savings. Al could no longer afford to consider it as a personal interest project. Instead the site needed to be an online business that produced a good ROI. Much to his surprise, Everything-about-RVing.com was riding out the tough economy. There was no shortness of interest online and his site began besting the competition for traffic. As traffic levels climbed so did his profits. The income he earns offsets the losses he took in the recession.
Even though Al is “in business”, he isn’t toiling. He travels in his RV and works on his laptop, sometimes by the pool with an ice-cold beer. According to him, it beats standing in a convenience store waiting on customers, which is what many retirees believe is their destiny when they need to supplement their income.
Despite having no professional writing, graphic or website design experience, Al credits Site Build It! as the reason he is competing with big business online. Al is a great example of how people, from college graduates to retirees, are becoming self-reliant and beating the recession in creative ways.
