Rooftop Farm At B.good Moves To Temporary Home
B.Good at 225 Washington to grow first kale crop at off-site location due to restricted access to their garage-top farm.

BriefingWire.com, 3/26/2014 - Boston, MA: Green City Growers, an urban farming company in Somerville, launched a Save The Kale campaign to save the first crop of kale for B.Good at 225 Washington St., which would otherwise be lost due to temporary restricted access to the upper level of the parking garage; current home to B.Good’s urban farm. Green City Growers farmers, with a crew of local volunteers, move the 20 raised beds that grow the kale crop from Boston to Somerville today, Thursday, March 27.

"Together with GCG and our family of customers, we have saved the baby kale,” said Jon Olinto, owner of B.Good restaurants of Greater Boston. “I'm really happy that we were able to make this happen and grateful to the folks at Concord Avenue for becoming foster parents for our greens.” Green City Growers Horticulture Director Laura Feddersen expects a yield of 150 pounds of kale from this crop, which will be used in B.Good’s quinoa bowls and smoothies.

The 20 beds will be planted with kale starts after being transferred to the Community Garden on Concord Avenue, Somerville, the temporary host site. In mid-May the kale will be harvested for B.Good, and then the beds will return to the upper level of the parking garage to start growing B.Good’s tomato crop.
