A new report has raised concern that revision rates related to the Stryker hip recall http://www.stryker-rejuvenate-hip-recall-lawsuit.com/ for Rejuvenate and ABG II Modular-Neck Hip Stems could exceed 50%, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. One Florida surgeon who had implanted 400 of the recalled hip stems recently told the Palm Beach Post that he has already performed revision surgeries on 100 of those patients, and expects to perform at least 100 more. Other doctors have expressed concern that the revision rates related to the Stryker Rejuvenate recall could reach 70% or higher, according to the Post.*“We hear from patients almost every day who were affected by the Stryker hip recall, and who are now suffering from serious complications due to a failing hip. We do expect that revision rates will be alarmingly high,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing the victims of defective drugs and medical devices, including clients who were affected by the Stryker hip stem recall.
Stryker Rejuvenate Recall
The Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II recall was issued in July 2012, after data indicated the hip stems were prone to fretting and corrosion at the modular-neck junction. The physician interviewed by the Palm Beach Post stated that complications he’s observed include measurable metal contamination on blood tests, and painful, fluid-filled pseudotumors around the artificial joints. Stryker has recommended that all patients fitted with the affected stems undergo blood tests and imaging screens to ensure their devices are functioning properly, even if they are not experiencing symptoms.**
Court records indicate that at least 81 Stryker Rejuvenate lawsuits are pending in a consolidated litigation recently established in New Jersey’s Bergen County Superior Court. (In re Stryker Rejuvenate Hip Stem and the ABG II Modular Hip Stem Litigation, No. 296) Plaintiffs in federally-filed Stryker hip claims have also petitioned the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation for transfer of all similar federal cases to the U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota for pretrial proceeding.
