Supporting Autism is one “Check” away for Florida Motorists
As of July 1, 2012, Florida motorists now have the ability to donate $1.00 or more to “Autism Services” when they renew a driver’s license and/or motor vehicle registration.

BriefingWire.com, 7/10/2012 - As of July 1, 2012, Florida motorists now have the ability to donate $1.00 or more to “Autism Services” when they renew a driver’s license and/or motor vehicle registration. Monies generated by these voluntary check offs will provide additional funding for autism related service programs throughout the State of Florida.

Championed by former State Representative Susan Goldstein, legislation making this possible was sponsored by Senator Ellyn Bogdanoff and Representative Joe Abruzzo during the 2011 Florida Legislative Session.

In 2009, the Florida Legislature authorized the “Support Autism Services” specialty license plate and provided for the creation of the Autism Services Grants Council (ASGC). The ASGC is responsible for all dollars generated by the “Support Autism” specialty license plates and now the dollars generated by the voluntary “Autism Services” check off options.

By marketing the Florida “Support Autism Programs” specialty license plate and voluntary check offs, the ASGC not only supports non-profit programs throughout Florida with grant funding, it increases public awareness about autism.
