Flooring Tiles
Terra Artesana is the place to come for beautiful, exotic cement floor tiles. Originating from the south of France towards the end of the 19th century a new technique was established using a hydraulic press with natural pigments and fine aggregates to create distinctive, handmade tiles. This process became the basis for further artistic developments and today it remains the process by which mission cement tiles are still made although the process has been refined over the centuries.
Mission Cement Tiles
Spanish artesana developed the technique for creating mission cement tiles. Each handmade cement tile requires a special mold for each design. The process blends high quality white Portland cement, marble powder, fine sand and natural mineral color pigments. These cement tiles do not use any glaze or kiln firing. Instead, they use the process of hydrolysis and they harden through their soak in vats of water. Because the materials are solidified using a hydraulic press these tiles have an exceptional level of resistance and strength. They are perfect for high traffic areas. With a concrete base and a thick soapstone pigmentation these cement tiles will last throughout many generations. All tiles are manufactured using 100% natural and recycled materials and they are pollutant free as well as non-flammable.
Saltillo Floor Tiles
For a simpler look handcrafted Saltillo tiles provide another terrific way to enhance a floor. These tiles are handcrafted from the raw and natural clays of central Mexico in the natural terra cotta color and they fit in perfectly with Hacienda. Mediterranean and Southwestern style homes. Once these tiles are installed they can be sealed to provide a slick and shiny look if you prefer that to the natural rougher finish.
Wall Tiles
Wall and decorative tiles come in a colorful variety and can be used in versatile combinations to create murals, borders or simply provide an accent wall. There are traditional patterns and contemporary themed tiles. Tiles come in different finishes such as frost proof for added durability and greater stain resistance, or high relief tiles for areas where you want bolder designs with strong projections like decorative kitchen backsplashes and garden designs.
For bathrooms, kitchens and fireplace borders or accents try copper tiles. Copper tiles come in a dark patina, natural and hammered finishes in a variety of different patterns.
