The Growing Aged Care Crisis
The Growing Aged Care Crisis

BriefingWire.com, 4/14/2014 - A number of issues are crippling the industry. Recently, a remark a Center is "not fit for habitation" caused me to analyze two of the problems. These relate to the amount of staffing and patient-care. Let me emphasize these issues further.

The best way to emphasize the lack of patient-care is through presenting the example of a current incident.

Last year, women was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. By late a year ago her condition had significantly deteriorated and her husband and daughter were taking good care of her. She required a 24hour care. She had no actions in her legs and did not want to get into a capability. The activities in her fingers were also restricted.

In managing her daughter and her husband were anxious for some professional guidance. Considering this, they persuaded her to guide temporarily into such an aged care facility for better care from trained professionals.

Having spent the first night at the Facility, the in-patient texted her man to come back and get her quickly. She did not wish to stay static in the Capability to the basis of lack of care.

Preliminary investigations revealed that there were several breaches by the Capability. That is why, her husband reported to the Agedcare Commissioner. In addition, there have been problems with rethinking and lack of bed rails. During the night, she had fallen off the bed due to insufficient bed rails. Her demands support had brought no body. She had suffered injuries consequently of the drop and no body in the Aged-Care Facility she was in recorded this as an episode.

That such facilities manage the best they could is apparent. However, the obvious lack of procedures and teaching cause problems of this nature.

Though these are isolated cases, we find that similar issues exist with all of the aged care facilities.
