Toon Boom and OLM Discussed Future of Digital Animation at TAAF
Toon Boom along with other industry leaders including OLM discussed the future of digital workflow of animation at TAAF.

BriefingWire.com, 6/17/2015 - Toon Boom, one of the most recognized names in animation creation software, was at TAAF to discuss the future of digital workflow in animation. This discussion was specifically meant to work out digital animation of Japan. The company was joined by other industry leaders like OLM in a roundtable discussion. Hosting the event along with Toon Boom Animation was Tokyo Anime Awards Festival 2015 and CG World. The event was held at Wired Café News Nihonbashi.

Providing the details of the event, Francisco Del Cueto, Toon Boom’s Chief Technical Officer said that the leaders looked forward to discuss the unique opportunities along with the challenges that were confronted by digital technology of Japanese market. Further adding to the details he said that Toon Boom believes that future of digital workflow would surely strengthen Japan’s animation industry.

Toon Boom is well known for production of state-of-the-art animation applications. It is also well acknowledged for its services to renowned animation studios. Apart from serving animation studios, Toon Boom also extends its services to individuals, educational institutions along with gaming studios. As of now, teaming up with Toon Boom is OLM, the Tokyo based animation studio and creator of notable shows like Pokemon and Yokai Watch.

Appreciating Toon Boom’s animation products, Hiroyuki Kato, producer at OLM, said that they were looking forward to collaborate with the former and integrate OLM’s technology with their workflow. OLM has already initiated the adoption of Toon Boom’s Harmony Software. OLM is one of the biggest animation production companies of Japan and owning it as a client is surely going to be leverage for Toon Boom.

Talking about opportunities of this collaboration, Francisco Del Cueto of Toon Boom added that it has always been there philosophy to support all styles of animation. Since, till now, large part of Japan’s animation still relies on hand-drawn production. Francisco said that Toon Boom would aim at uniting the methodologies of traditional animation with their digital techniques and create an efficient workflow.

Japan houses over 300 animation production companies. With such a huge number, Japan’s anime industry can be considered to be one of the vastest in the world. Some even claim it to be the world capital of animation industry. In such scenario, it would be interesting to follow that how facets of Japan’s animation production changes with full fledged integration of digital technology.

The concept of digital technology is certainly not new to Japan and many Japanese animation companies have already embraced it for their production pipelines. Toon Boom Animation, a Corus Entertainment Inc. company, is a Primetime Emmy® Engineering Award recipient. It would be fascinating to see whether OLM could use Harmony to its fullest and can produce another notable, memorable work.
