Kiev, Ukraine, February 15, 2012 -- On February the 3-rd “Ukrainska Molochna Kompania” (UMK) sold CO2 emission quotas for 2010. The company added to its earnings over 100 thousand Euros “out of thin air.”A dairy farm in Krupile village(Kiev region), owned by the UMK, built its biogas plant in 2008 to process production wastes for latter production of electricity. Construction works for the biogas plant were conducted by “Zorg Biogas Ukraine” - Ukrainian subsidiary of Zorg Biogas AG. Same year the UMK has signed a contract with the Environmental Investment Fund, selling its CO2 emission quotas. The project was carried out according to methods of joint implementation set by the Kyoto Protocol.
Biogas plant reduced 20 000 tons of company’s CO2 emissions, with the cost of 1 ton of CO2 emissions ranging between 5 to 10 Euros.
