Valero’s “Fill Up to Fight Hunger” fuel campaign raises $20,000 for FOOD Share of Ventura County
Valero campaign fuels donation for Ventura County Regional food bank

BriefingWire.com, 11/09/2011 - (OXNARD, Calif.) – FOOD Share of Ventura County, a Feeding America food bank, and Valero, an international manufacturer and marketer of energy products and power, announced today that $20,000 has been raised from the “Fill Up to Fight Hunger” fuel campaign and will be donated to the food bank.

Valero launched “Fill Up to Fight Hunger” on April 4 to give motorists a chance to fight hunger in their communities simply by filling up with Valero fuel. For each 8-gallon fuel purchase made at a local participating Valero outlet, Valero donated $1 to FOOD Share.

In all, the campaign resulted in $2.9 million distributed to more than 125 food banks across the U.S.

FOOD Share provides food to more than 74,500 people each month in Ventura County through more than 150 pantry partner agencies, including Camarillo, Fillmore, Moorpark, Oak View, Ojai, Oxnard, Santa Paula, Simi Valley, Somis, Thousand Oaks and Ventura. The donation will allow FOOD Share to purchase more than $143,000 of food.

“At a time when every penny counts in the fight against hunger, Valero stepped up and put real dollars to work in our community,” said Bonnie Weigel, FOOD Share CEO. “Local motorists helped fill up our food bank as they filled their gas tanks, and we are thankful for their support as we work to feed those who are faced with hunger here in Ventura County”.

Both company-owned Valero Corner Stores and independently operated Valero-branded locations participated in “Fill Up to Fight Hunger.”
