Audiobook Pop! To Donate Portion of Sales to Librivox, Website With Free Public Domain Audiobooks.
Audiobook Pop! creator of curated and themed mobile audiobook apps, today announced that a portion of December sales from ABP! apps will be donated to Librivox.org, an online digital library of free public domain audiobooks, read by volunteers.

BriefingWire.com, 12/07/2012 - The Audiobook Pop! mission is to create themed audiobook apps with only the best narrators from Librivox. No ones has time to sift through the thousands of audiobooks at Librivox. Audiobook Pop! does it for you.

Audiobook Pop! apps include

Audiobooks - Austen, a Jane Austen anthology,

Audiobooks - Takes, a compilation of fairy tales and folk tales from around the world,

Audiobooks For Your Kids, a compilation of classic children’s literature

Audiobooks - Sci-Fi, Classic Science Fiction.

Established in 2007, Librivox is the world's most prolific audiobook publisher. The LibriVox objective is to make all books in the public domain available, for free, in audio format on the internet. Mike Linksvayer, Vice-President of Creative Commons, has described it as "perhaps the most interesting collaborative culture project this side of Wikipedia.”

Since the entire Audiobook Pop! catalog is drawn from Librivox, we feel a certain amount of responsibility to give back to the project as well as to advocate for the cause. Similar to the Gutenberg Project, Librivox has no budget and is run by volunteers for the greater good. Great works of literature should belong to everyone. All content found on Audiobook Pop! apps can be found for free on the Librivox.org website.

At Audiobook Pop!, we focus on themes and great narrators. Other audiobook apps might offer the entire Librivox catalog. There are over 6,000 audiobooks at Librivox, making it sometimes overwhelming for those of us who don’t have the time to sift through all of the titles. At Audiobook Pop!, we first select a theme, such as Science Fiction. Then, we collect titles that have the most fluid and resonant narrators. No matter how great a book, if the narrator doesn’t do it for you, you can’t listen.

“We usually put around 30 audiobooks into each app,” explains ABP co-creator, Elizabeth Rodgers. “This is a number that most people can conquer. If you have thousands of books to choose from, it’s hard to make a choice.”

Audiobooks were something that Elizabeth Rodgers played in the car for her two children; to make them smarter, to keep them calm. The content usually came from either the public library or Librivox. A writer herself, Elizabeth values a good story – especially the classics.

Three things, however, made the process too complicated:

Buying audiobooks is expensive,

Owning, renting and borrowing CDs can be a hassle,

Sifting through thousands of books in other apps is overwhelming.

These issues proved to be the push she needed to envision the first Audiobook Pop! app: Audiobooks For Your Kids.

That’s where co-founder Mazal Simantov comes in: Mazal is the rare breed of graphic designer and engineer – combined. The idea for the app was not only bolstered by her sense of style and technical know-how, but also by the passion she has for volunteering with kids, something she’s been doing since she was six years old. Because she’s an avid reader, Mazal loves the idea of creating a positive app that promotes literacy.

It was Mazal’s technical capabilities and love of clean, clear design that moved Elizabeth’s idea into an actual app. Together, Mazal and Elizabeth architected the simplicity and intuitiveness of Audiobooks For Your Kids app.

Above all, Audiobook Pop! asks that you support Librivox.org.
