The West Bengal State Electricity Board (WBSEB) is undertaking the construction of a hydroelectric power plant in West Bengal, India.

The project involves the construction of a 120MW run-of-river hydroelectric power plant.

The project will include the construction of powerhouses (3 x 40MW), a substation, a barrage with four gates bays of 10m each, an 8.2km D-shaped head race tunnel (HRT), a cut and cover box section 740m tailrace tunnel and access roads, and the installation of Pelton turbines, surge shaft with 14.5m diameter and 52.5m height, generators and transformers, and the laying of transmission lines.

In September 2006, Project secured in principle approval from Central Electricity Authority.

In August 2007, project secured Environment clearances. In May 2008, project secured Forest clearances.

Simplex Infrastructures ltd (Simplex) and Apex joint venture has been appointed as civil contractor for the project.

On March 19, 2015, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) secured US$36 million supply contract. BHEL scope of work includes setting engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and erection and commissioning of hydro generating sets and associated electro-mechanical works, which are to be executed in a schedule of 45 months.

Construction works are underway.

Scope

The third phase of the project involves the construction of a 120MW capacity run-of-river hydroelectric power plant at Jaldhaka River in Siliguri, Darjeeling, West Bengal, India.

The US$228 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of three powerhouses

2. Construction of a barrage with four gates bays of 10m each

3. Construction of a substation

4. Construction of an 8.2km D-shaped HRT

5. Construction of a cut and cover box section 740m tailrace tunnel

6. Construction of access roads

7. Installation of Pelton turbines

8. Installation of surge shaft with 14.5m diameter and 52.5m height

9. Installation of generators and transformers

10. Laying of transmission lines
