The scale of today's paid national daily newspaper market is surprisingly small relative to the country it seeks to influence. Using the circulation figures we have been examining, paid national daily circulation equates to roughly one copy for every 23 UK adults. That comparison should immediately challenge any assumption that newspaper circulation itself represents the political outlook of Britain.As of Press Gazette's 2024 analysis, the Mail, i Newspaper, Express, Sun and Telegraph titles, characterised them as providing staunchly critical coverage of Labour, had a combined circulation of around 2 million, compared with approximately 300,000 for the Guardian and Daily Mirror, described as broadly left-wing, but even that is challenged as the Mirror is owned by another right wing group without 100% complete editorial freedom.
That does not mean six times as many Britons hold right-wing views. Circulation and political opinion are entirely different measurements, the 2024 general election demonstrates why:
Labour received 33.7% of votes, Conservatives 23.7%, Reform UK 14.3%, Liberal Democrats 12.2% and Greens 6.4%. This alone suggests that of voters were 56.3% left wing and just 38% right wing.
*Clearly from those figures alone left wing politics are very badly represented to a majority left wing public*
The cohesion question arises when the political balance of highly influential national publications does not resemble the political opinions of the population they are supposed to inform 'in the public interest'.
When the BBC become part of that minority right wing media then it becomes a completely different and more dangerous breakdown in democracy itself.
Why: Because the BBC's news platforms repeat the imbalance in political news and views expanding those messages exponentially 24 hours a day every day of the year.
When a Jewish BBC presenter an article exclusively about threatened Jewish British citizens in the UK but does not mention the arguably more endangered Muslim citizens in the UK it shows a clear bias, and this is the publicly funded BBC subject to its Royal Charter.
When the BBC are aware of an event that occurred at a Reform party 'meeting' where a young attendee was physically assaulted by aggressive reform party supporters for 'heckling' - while reform's leader watched on smiling and making fun of her, this did not even become a BBC headline - unfathomable in any other situation, with any other politician - it shows a clear bias.
In an email sent to the GB2GB Founder TW George it read:

Journalists are entitled to decide which stories to cover and the manner in which such stories are covered…
There is no requirement for a story about the leader of one political party to be treated in the same way as a separate story about another party leader…
BBC News does NOT have to explain or PUBLICLY justify the editorial decisions it makes.”

So, just WHO's interests are the media as a whole representing - certainly not the left wing majority.
A country already experiencing extreme political distrust and social fragmentation has an interest in ensuring that its national information environment does not continually divide citizens into competing political realities. But the question is - does its media and their journalists who in the main are right wing?
