The Daily Express also said that "An individual earning £50,000 will pay just below £59,000 in income tax over the next six years, which is £9,000 more than what it would have been if the thresholds were hiked by inflation. That the tax allowance freeze is the equivalent to an extra two percent on the basic rate for someone earning the average UK salary of £33,000. Furthermore a higher earner on £75,000 of earnings faces the equivalent of both the basic-rate and higher-rates of tax being hiked by three percentage points each. This would be an increase to 23 percent and 43 percent respectively, and taxpayers would pay the same income tax bill of £126,000 income over the six-year freeze.
A lower earner on £25,000 will pay a total £18,484 in income tax under the frozen thresholds until 2028. This is the equivalent to three pence on the basic rate of 23 percent.

The problem is the Daily Express said that in 2022, and indeed it not only was true, it was factual in that this was precisely what the Conservatives DID?
*What is also true is that Badenoch was Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury from 13 February 2020 to 15 September 2021 just prior to that announcement - and actively supportive of that government until 2024*.
She was aware of those costs at the time, and almost certainly aware of the OBR forecast that this would raise £42.9 BILLION in 2027/28, and that the OBR estimated nearly four million additional people would pay income tax, three million more would enter the higher rate and another 400,000 the additional rate.

So the question is THIS: When she claimed that by extending the Income Tax Freeze (set up by the Conservative party in 2021) by another 3 years by the Labour government would cost working people £10 Billion - WHY did SHE not admit what damage had been done THEN.

And why did the BBC feature her criticism of the Labour Party - without 'finding this out' - just like they did for 2 years forensically attacking the Labour government day after day so enthusiastically by its overpaid 'journalists' - given that they were ALL allowed to SAY or PRINT whatever they want to:
