Deceased Katy Area Veterans to be Honored with Wreath Ceremony
American Legion Post 164 and Auxiliary Rally Community to Remember, Honor and Teach

BriefingWire.com, 12/14/2020 - (Katy, Texas) – Wreaths Across America (www.WreathsAcrossAmerica.org) was founded by a couple Morrill and Karen Worcester with the simple idea of placing a surplus of wreaths at the Veterans Memorial at Arlington Cemetery in 2005. This gesture spawned a national movement of volunteers who now gather in small towns and major cities across America to remember our veterans who have served and passed on, never to be forgotten for their sacrifice and service to our great nation.

The century old American Legion, comprised of war-time veterans, has adopted the mission to: Remember, Honor and Teach others about the legacy of these elite men and women who swore a duty to our nation.

Date: Saturday, December 19, 2020

Time: 10AM to 12PM (rain or shine) – opening ceremony: prayer, presentation of colors, national anthem, speakers, 21-gun salute and laying of over 475 wreaths for veterans buried at Magnolia Cemetery.

Location: Magnolia Cemetery – 6801 Franz Road, Katy, Texas 7493

Parking: Free parking, parking available next to location and on neighborhood streets

Guests of Honor: Keynote Speaker U.S. Army Major General (Retired) Darrell W. McDaniel, Katy Mayor William “Bill Hastings”, Katy are veterans and various community leaders (Daughter of the American Revolution, Faith leaders, Katy FFA, Katy Area Police and Firefighters, and more).

“I am a new member to the American Legion and prior to joining Post 164 I attended the wreath ceremony in Katy and was inspired to see our post lead this local effort and so many people in attendance to include the families who appreciated that veterans and volunteers would remember their loved ones in this solemn way,” said Andy Valadez, Public Relations Officer and U.S. Marine Veteran for the American Legion Post 164.

The American Legion Post 164 in Katy meets every 4th Wednesday starting at 6:30PM for a social mixer and then business meeting at 7:30PM at 22125 Kingsland Blvd., Katy, Texas. The gathering is open to current members and new prospective members.

The American Legion was founded in 1919 in Indianapolis, Indiana and has gone on to create an illustrious history established on four pillars - Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth.
