Former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion & MMAYF Partner Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal will be dedicating his time to the S.A.V.E (Spartans Acquiring Value in Education) Mentoring Program at Salmen High School in Slidell, Louisiana on Friday, January 14th. The program is directed by Sharon Crawford and is designed to give at-risk students at Salmen High School positive role models in their life as they prepare to graduate. King Mo will deliver a message to the students before signing autographs and taking pictures with people in attendance. Salmen High School was one of the affected schools devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Although it was buried under nearly 12 feet of water, Salmen High has since been rebuilt and has an amazing new facility where students and faculty returned at the start of the school year. Lawal, coming off of his first career loss, has something in common with the Louisiana High School, and that is the goal of returning to championship form amidst adversity. Mrs. Crawford is excited to have Lawal come down for a visit. Feeling it was appropriate for a fighter to speak at the program, she commented, “This school really went through a lot over the past 5 years and we had to fight our way back and that’s exactly what we did. Everyone, from students to faculty, fought back. Having King Mo come and speak exemplifies the fight and, in his situation, the climb back up. It’s cliché, but true; it’s not how you win as a champion, but how you bounce back from adversity. That’s the mark of a true champion and I’m sure Lawal will do just that. It’s an honor to have him speak at our school!”
