In 1984, Don and Leona Jay took a leap of faith and decided to open their own business using their retirement savings. With 25 years of experience in textiles, Don wanted to focus his business on linen rental for events throughout the Nashville area. The Jays opened Liberty, a retail party store, and acquired an event rental store, Taylor Rental, in Hendersonville, Tennessee.Over the next six years, Liberty continued to grow and add to their inventory of china, glassware, flatware, linen and catering equipment. With such growth, Liberty moved into a larger location in 1990 at City Square Plaza where they had their retail division on the top level and their rental division and showroom on the lower level.
Over the next ten years, Liberty continued to see a steady increase in business. Customers not only used Liberty for their retail paper goods and costume needs, but also to rent tabletop items, catering equipment, wedding décor, flooring and stages. When frame tents became popular in the late 1990s, Liberty was one of the exclusive companies in Nashville to stock this desired type of tenting. By this time, Liberty was already accommodating a wide range of events from high-end residential dinner parties for ten guests to over 1,500 guest events at the former Opryland USA theme park.
In 2000, The Jays decided to focus on the growing party rental division and sold The Party Source, the retail division of their company.
In 2002, the Jays sold Liberty to long-time employee, Bruce Hurst. While still in high school in the late 1980s, Bruce began working at Liberty as a delivery driver . He returned after college working in all aspects of the business including washing dishes, delivering orders, and introducing the tenting, flooring and staging components to the rental division. After Bruce acquired the business, the name was officially changed to Liberty Party Rental. Although Don Jay sold the business, he continues to remain a key team player at Liberty Party Rental as the Chief Financial Officer.
In March 2008, Liberty Party Rental moved to its present location off Saundersville Road in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Liberty Party Rental experienced tremendous growth in 2012, with the acquisition of a brand new warehouse and design center in the Green Hills area of Nashville. The Green Hills Design Center formally opened in August of 2012, while the new Hendersonville warehouse and showroom opened in May of 2012. Liberty Party Rental now has 35,000 square feet of rental space between the main warehouse and the tent warehouse. With a professional, creative and dependable staff, Liberty Party Rental is the top choice in Tennessee and surrounding states for arranging your party.
