Orion Solar is the Australian and S. Pacific regional distributor for Carmanah Technologies of Canada and Sabik Oy of Finland, companies which are the world leaders in the field of designing and manufacturing marine lanterns. Our solar powered marine lanterns are unique in the world of navigation and hazard marker lighting. Completely integrated and self-contained, the lights come in green, red, amber, white and blue with visibilities ranging from one to fifteen nautical miles. They can be programmed to produce over 200 of the world's standard IALA flash characters and are designed to operate flawlessly for up to 5 years, depending on the installation location. In addition, all Orion come complete with both a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 3-year limited warranty - one of the strongest warranties in the industry.
Current breakthroughs in LED technology, in the form of increased intensity and a wider color range, have made it possible for Carmanah and Sabik to develop proprietary, patented technologies around the core concept of efficient LED light. By fully integrating a combination of LED's, high efficiency solar power, advanced power storage systems and intelligent power management, Orion are able to supply the world's premier line of self-contained lighting products for navigation and hazard marking applications. With thousands of potential applications, our marine lanterns can be used to promote safe passage in virtually any marine environment. Attach a Carmanah or Sabik marine lantern to a fixed pedestal or buoy to mark channels, moorings or marine hazards. Affix them to a dock or anchored boat or use them to clearly mark the perimeters of aquaculture farms, light bridges, boat ramps, dredging lines or any other marine infrastructure.
Another feature of the Carmanah and Sabik marine lanterns is the ability to synchronise the flashing light of a group of marine lanterns by means of timing through GPS satellites. This GPS synchronisation is particularly advantageous for channel makers in areas with lots of background lights. Another option which can be included with some of our lights is integrated GSM remote monitoring.
Marine lanterns need to be constructed of sturdy materials to withstand years of buffeting by waves at sea. Nowhere was this brought home better than in the report of a Canadian Coast Guard buoy which went adrift off the coast of Labrador in 2003. The buoy took more than a year to cross the Atlantic Ocean and ran aground on a remote Shetland Island. When it showed up in December on the rugged coast of the tiny island of Papa Stour, population 27, the light was still flashing, even after traveling 5,800 kilometres. The buoy was easy to spot, said Simon Calvin, teacher at the Papa Stour school, which has two elementary school students and one "nursery" child. "I noticed the light early one morning." He contacted Carmanah by e-mail and they set up a correspondence. The company sent Calvin gifts and information about Canada.
Carmanah and Sabik have a worldwide installed base of over 250,000 marine lanterns with many of those installed in our region.
