SHORT FILM ‘BALANCE’ SENDS POSITIVE MESSAGE TO YOUNG BLACK MALES SELECTED TO SCREEN IN THE 4 HEARTS SHORT FILM SHOWCASE

Chicago, IL (July 4, 2012) Naima Dawson’s Balance will screen at The 4 Hearts 1st Annual Short Film Showcase on July 21st at The Holiday Star Theater located at 340 main street in Park Forest from noon to 3pm. Tickets are $12 and may be purchased at the door. Discount tickets are available online for $10.

Balance was created for a mix-tape project by Harold Green III, geared towards elevating social awareness in music. The film was created in lieu of the hip-hop song Beamer, Benz, or Bentley by Lloyd Banks but remade by artist Harold Green III with socially conscious lyrics designed to force people to become socially aware of the message behind the music. In the film Balance, Silas and Cash are stereotypical, young, male luxury car owners, who have placed all their dollars and self-worth into their luxury rides. Their good friend Coltrane, tries to convince Silas and Cash that as young Black men they must place more value in their future and education instead of their cars.

Naima A. Dawson is the founder of All Hype City, an entertainment company geared towards creating contemporary stories for the stage and film. Naima is a writer, director, producer, nationally published author and educator, dedicated to the arts for more than 15 years. With her Master of Fine Arts from Columbia College in Chicago and her Master of Education from DePaul University, Naima is known for creating new contemporary works for the stage at many of Chicago’s accredited theater houses.
