Scotland, UK - Pleated Blind FAQ’s from Select Blinds

Fitting blinds in your home or business will transform it into a new and fresh space. Blinds are so versatile and will make a room look bigger, keep it warmer and make it look modern and contemporary. Our Pleated Blind FAQ’s will tell you everything you need to know so you can decide if they are the right choice for you.

Blinds are a simple and versatile window covering which are now often used instead of curtains. There is a huge range of styles, materials, colours and patterns to choose from and it is really up to you how you want your room to look as to which style of blind and colour you choose. They can sit in the background looking minimal or you can choose to have them in bright and vivid colours or patterns to really stand out, the choice is yours.

Blinds will make your home or business look modern and contemporary, they fit your window perfectly and the style, colour and material you choose will ensure they match your decor. Blinds are easy to use, easy to keep clean and maintain and don’t overpower a room like curtains can do.

What are Pleated Blinds?

Pleated blinds, also known as pleated shades have one continuous layer of fabric with no slats. The blind raises up into a small neat stack at the top of your window or door frame which allows a full view from the pane of glass when open. They are easily opened and closed by pulling or pushing a bar running along the bottom of the fabric. When a pleated blind is closed you can see the pleat definitions in the fabric and dependent on the thickness of the fabric you choose they will give a room shade or full blackout when closed. When they are half-open or fully open they allow the natural light to enter your room.

How does a Pleated Blind work?

Pleated blinds can be fitted inside a window or door recess or within your window or door frame and are opened and closed by pulling or pushing a bar running along the bottom of the fabric. The blind raises up into a small neat stack at the top of your window or door frame which allows a full view from the pane of glass when open. There is no weight to opening and closing them as the material is lightweight and they glide easily up and down. The pleated shade string, commonly called the cord, runs through a series of holes on the pleats. The evenly spaced holes allow the shades to raise up into a tightly compressed unit at the top of the window or door frame to provide a larger area of the visible window space compared to other types of blinds.
