Rebuilding the 2015 Ford Edge from the Ground Up.
The recently introduced, all-new 2015 Ford Edge will continue to be a critical part of the 2016 Ford lineup in the U.S. as its role in overseas markets continues to expand.

BriefingWire.com, 5/15/2015 - When it was originally introduced in 2006, the Ford Edge was among the first SUV's to be built on a car platform as opposed to a truck platform. As such, it helped create the market for what are now known as crossover sport utility vehicles. It provided the room, cargo capacity, rugged style and ride height associated with an SVU, but the fuel efficiency, driver and passenger comfort and overall driving dynamics of a car. It was an immediate sales success.

For 2015, Ford decided it was time to re-imagine its popular crossover from the ground up. The result is an all-new vehicle from top to bottom, inside and out, that will be sold around the globe. With new technology, improved craftsmanship, greatly improved vehicle dynamics and an athletic new shape, the 2015 Ford Edge is being touted as the new standard in two-row sport utility vehicles. It will anchor the 2016 Ford crossover lineup.

Of the three engine options available on the 2015 Ford Edge, two are all-new. The standard powerpalnt is the redesigned 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine with a twin-scroll turbocharger that produces 245 horsepower. It will be available in front- and all-wheel drive configurations. Also new is a twin-turbo 2.7-liter V-6 with 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque that will be available on Sport models. A naturally aspirated 3.5-liter Ti-VCT V-6 that makes 280 horsepower rounds out the engine offerings. All come equipped with dual output exhaust and a six-speed automatic transmission.

The 2015 Edge offers a long list of safety features including collision warning, active cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, and a 180-degree front camera with a dedicated washer. Its Adaptive Steering system uses an electric motor to slow down or speed up normal steering-wheel commands depending on the conditions. It improves "on-center" feel when driving at higher speeds and provides greater maneuverability at lower speeds. Automatic parking and automatic stop-start are helpful conveniences, as is the much ballyhooed hands-free liftgate that's featured prominently throughout the 2016 Ford SUV lineup.

The Edge has always been a handsome vehicle, but the design has been further refined for 2015. While the interior design is essentially carryover, the quality of materials used has been upgraded, and ergonomic refinements help create a more pleasing occupant environment all around. The all-new Edge is set to be a mainstay in the 2016 Ford global product lineup.
