Shalby Hospital, Indore Performed Madhya Pradesh’s First Successful Radiosurgery
Shalby Hospitals, a leading multispeciality hospital has successfully performed the first radiosurgery in the state of Madhya Pradesh and become the first hospital in central India to successfully undertake radiosurgery.

BriefingWire.com, 2/16/2017 - Shalby Cancer Institute & Research Centre at Shalby Hospital, Indore has become the first centre in central India to successfully undertake radiosurgery in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Doctors’ team led by Dr. S.P Shrivastava, Senior Consultant and Head of the Department of Oncology delivered radiosurgery to Mr. Chandrakant Nilosey (85, Male) from January 25, 2017 to February 3, 2017. Patient was treated with Stereotactic radiosurgery which is a non surgical and painless treatment for cancer patients and treats brain disorders with a precise delivery of a one to five, high dose of radiation in a few sessions. Post treatment, patient has shown good improvement neurologically and his overall health too is improving very fast.

Patient (Mr. Chandrakant Nilosey) who is a diagnosed case of Meningioma recurrence ( tumor of covering of brain) was seen in oncology OPD of Shalby hospital on January 17, 2017 with complaints of weakness in left upper limb and lower limb since 2-3 months. After proper evaluation and investigations, he was advised by neurosurgeon to consider radiotherapy treatment.

Dr. S.P. Shrivastava informed that “It was quite a challenge as age of the patient was 85 years, but timely treatment and expertise of the eminent team of doctors made it possible. Radiosurgery is the future of painless cancer surgery without anesthesia, incision and hospitalization. We are happy and proud to say that at Shalby Hospital we have successfully performed the first radiosurgery in the state. We hope that it will be a great help for those patients who had to travel to Mumbai and Delhi for Radiosurgery, earlier”.

Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) treats brain disorders with a precise delivery of a single, high dose of radiation in a one to five session. Focused radiation beams are delivered to a specific area of the brain to treat abnormalities, tumors or functional disorders. Despite its name, radiosurgery is a treatment and not a surgical procedure. Incisions (cuts) are not made on patient’s body.

Stereotactic radiosurgery works the same as all other forms of radiation treatment. It does not remove the tumor or lesion, but it distorts the DNA of the tumor cells. The cells then lose their ability to reproduce and retain fluids. The tumor reduction occurs at the rate of normal growth for the specific tumor cell.
