(Houston, TX)- I am saddened by the loss of life in this incident, and my prayers are with everyone affected. We are a nation divided over immigration, and it is unfortunate that a family has lost their loved one. Our community is family-focused, diligent, loves America, and believes in right and wrong. Verda es verda (truth is truth). As responsible citizens of this great country, we are wise to allow our government system to serve us in good and troubled times.The facts are still being gathered, and multiple federal agencies are investigating. Out of respect for both the affected families, neighbors and friends, and the officers involved, it is important that we allow investigators to complete their work before reaching conclusions. I do believe it is reasonable that body cameras be released as soon as possible. So, that we can deal with the facts, not the rhetoric or emotionalism.
Every use of deadly force deserves a thorough, transparent, and professional review. The public deserves the truth, wherever the evidence leads.
We should reject efforts to inflame tensions before the investigation is complete. Our community is strongest when we remain committed to the rule of law, peaceful dialogue, and equal justice for every person.
I will continue to monitor this case and support a process that is fair, transparent, and accountable. I have been in prayer since the situation occurred and watched many share their views on-line and in the news. I believe we should all continue to pray and reflect on the issue at hand regarding our citizenry if we are to continue to be a free country.
